Cutoff turning off when there is no fault

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Turn on car
2. Wait about 5-10 minutes
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The car should stay on, instead the cutoff does a long beep and the car shuts 
off.
When plugged into serial, this text appears from the cutoff:

Missing Critical Heartbeat
Error state- powering down
--

Suspected cause: software filter is being overfilled and bps packet gets 
dropped.

Remedy (havn't tried): Use a hardware filter
