The suggestion:

Currently, the escalator placement is not very intuitive. The ponder helps quite a bit, but constantly doing math in your head really takes a toll on the 'fun' and 'coolness' of this mod.

The height and width of the escalator is the focus here. The double placement+ is easy once the first escalator is placed.

Why should there be a Ghost Render for escalators?

Create's cogs have a ghost render for placement along with the arrows to give hints of which way the cog would be placed. Other mods also have ghost placement renders so you can preview your action before it is executed, some include red boxes around blocks which are invalid or in the way of a placement action. Not being able to see where there is an issue in the entire placement of the escalator is a bit annoying.

The particles for the escalator placement (that Create conveyors also use) are not as helpful on their own, and need some kind of ghost render with them.

The ghost render could either appear the whole time, or appear once all 'issue' blocks are gone (red boxes would appear over all issue blocks until they are removed). Then everything else that happens in escalator placement would happen.
