Is there a way to setup an EpixNet to connect to Tor network through Tor Browser?
Setting up an Arti on my Windows PC is troublesome...

Hi @kavamaken - Tor is built in, if you click on the icon to the right of the address bar, it will open a dialog, at the top of that dialog there is a tor icon, click on that and you can see that there is an option to route all clearnet traffic through your EpixNet node over tor.

Then there is a problem, because i have tor browser running as proxy 27/7 and that prohibits tor bundled with EpixNet from running.
It is about port 9150 being occupide by Tor Browser.
Is there a setting i can change?

The EpixNet system includes a security feature to keep the two Tor systems separate. The Tor instance used by EpixNet runs on a different port ControlPort 49051, SOCKSPort 49050, so the two Tor instances do not interfere with each other.

This means that EpixNet will not connect to an independently running Tor service on your system. This is an intentional security feature. Instead, it will always use its own bundled Tor instance. If both systems were to use the same Tor service, they could end up sharing the same exit IP address when accessing the clearnet, which would reduce anonymity.

In short, you most likely don't need to configure anything. The two Tor instances operate independently and use different ports to ensure they don't conflict with each other.

I got my setting figured out, issue is no more.

There once again an issue with Tor.
It doesn't start, despite of settings in config.json.
I tryed to run EpixNet on fresh windows 10 virtualbox, still Tor marked as "off" while settings page states Tor enabled.
And if set Tor to always the network is gone.
Clearnet is working and I2P.
And the is NO logging, whatsoever.

Hi @kavamaken, thanks for the details, that helped a lot.

Two things are going on, and both are fixed in the next release (v0.3.18):

1. Old config file. It looks like you set tor= in the old Python-style epixnet.conf. This Rust version does not read your settings from there, it uses private/config.json, which is why your change did nothing. v0.3.18 does a one-time migration on startup: it moves your epixnet.conf settings (like tor, fileserver_port, language) into %APPDATA%\EpixNet\private\config.json and removes them from the old .conf so the two never disagree. After that, set everything from the Config page in the UI, not the file.

2. Logging. This version also fixes the "no logging" problem. Tor's bootstrap details now get written to the log file automatically, so if Tor still fails to start you will see the actual reason.

To get the full log:

1. Open the Config page in EpixNet.
2. Under Performance, set "Level of logging to file" to "Everything".
3. Click Save, then fully restart EpixNet.
4. Reproduce the problem (let it sit for a minute so Tor tries to bootstrap).
5. Open the log file at: %APPDATA%\EpixNet\log\epix-browser.log

Please upgrade to v0.3.18, try again, and if Tor still shows "off" attach that epix-browser.log here. It will now contain arti's bootstrap output, which tells us exactly why it is not coming up on your VM.

Tested 0.3.18 version, tor iis still off while it is enabled on config page.

I, finally, found my problem.
Arti client can't connect to Tor network due lack of tor proxies support and because of this won't start.
