I ran into this error as well. I've created a PR with a change to the setup.sh file because it was running the sed replace on files in the hidden .git folder and corrupting the git database.

Check the above commit for details. It's just an update to run the find operation on the arc, argo, flagger, flux, and terraform subdirs specifically.

I found a way around this issue as i was working with the repo

Update the setup.sh file to ignore the .git directory use this to replace the shell script.
find . -type f ! -path "./.git/*" -exec sed -i 's/dockerHubUsername/'$1'/g' {} +
