maybe the terminal just has a ridiculous color scheme. try with a linux virtual terminal and/or a different/differently configured terminal emulator. |

You didn't care to share what Linux distribution, mc version, and terminal emulator you are using, so we can only do some more or less educated guesses. The double lines are likely absent due to you using an ncurses build of mc. This has been recently fixed in master. The color palette weirdness is due to your terminal emulator. Distros like to make their own interpretations of a standard color palette, so that terminal apps blend better in their overall color scheme. You can normally change that in the terminal settings. |
