6.3.9 Broke Volume Up/Down/Mic/Fan/ROG Keys on G635LW / 6.3.8 Worked Fine

Installed 6.3.9 on my system without an issue. However, the volume up/down keys, mic mute, fan speed, and rog control key do not work now. They were fine under 6.3.8.

You can pick my branch, download it, build it cleanly and test it out to see if it works. If my idea is correct your problem is a simple race condition as wrote in my PR

I need both system daemon status and logs:

systemctl status asusd
journalctl -b -u asusd

and user daemon status and logs:

systemctl --user status asusd-user
journalctl --user -b -u asusd-user

Does the CLI work?

asusctl -s
asusctl profile -n

If these return errors, the system daemon is crashed or unable to bind to the laptop's WMI/HID interfaces.

Are keypress events registered by the kernel? To isolate whether the issue is at the kernel/driver level or user-space mapping level, try log input events when while pressing the broken keys:

sudo libinput debug-events

Also, I have an update for you. When I compiled and installed your branch of asusctl I not only restarted the asusd service, but I also rebooted just to make sure.

Today, I had an update for kernel 7.1-4-1 so I did that install and then rebooted.

Now, the hot keys work! I can raise and lower the volume keys without issue.

I don't believe there were any other updates.

Now to answer your questions:

I only restarted asusd and then rebooted to see if it would work. Note: I do not have asusd-user.

I have the build folder on my desktop in asus. I have no idea why this exists but did not install. I honestly installed it by the instrustions I posted before. I received no errors during the build nor during the sudo make install. Note: If it is weird and bizarre it will happen to me.

It would seem to me that this was not an issue with asusctl. However, if this happens to be a race condition and the issue repeats, please reopen this
