Why are you nominating this person?
This Slack workspace has made a large impact on my career and I want to help contribute as much as I can to help others. In fact, this has has been so profound that I started my local Tampa Bay GIS Users Slack workspace to mimic this one on a smaller level so I already have exposure to the admin settings like slackbots, channel settings, and connectivity to other platforms to name a few.
What do you currently like about the community?
This community has proven to be one of the most powerful tools I have used for GIS. The ability to reach out and ask questions and getting a reply same day, or even within just a few minutes, has not only helped me grow professionally, but also reduce budget by shortening the amount of time trying to find the answer elsewhere.
What would you consider changing about the community, if anything?
A portal where people can upload and search for resumes when new jobs come up. It could be like a Google form with predefined fields that get saved to a gsheet with a link to upload a file to a folder and this pinned to a #spatial-community-talent channel or the GitHub Pages website.
Additionally, having a list of relevant trainings or certifications could help new comers.
Which of the listed admin tasks would you be most able to support?
I can help with maintaining documents and the GitHub pages site since that's what I use for my personal site and also help setup the Discourse forum. I can also help with non-technical tasks like pruning channels or moderating.
Any other special skills or relevant experience?
I have cloud experience with Azure, AWS, and GCP as well as data warehousing.
What channels do you currently spend time in - or, what are your areas of experience?
My traditional academic background is in wildlife biology and data science - both of which are fields that use GIS in different ways. I primarily come here for programming-related channels since I typically do more backend tasks or to find data sources/APIs
