Why are you nominating this person?

I really enjoy being a part of this community and engaging with all the cool people here. I feel that I am relatively active here, and I understand the ins and outs pretty well. I would love to help grow this community, making it a fun and helpful place for fellow geospatial nerds.

What do you currently like about the community?

Our little community feels like a safe place to ask honest questions and expect helpful feedback in return. I don't get that anticipation of receiving non-constructive feedback or sarcasm/shit-post replies like some other social media platforms. This is mostly drama free zone where people know when it's appropriate to post helpful, funny, or just plain interesting content.

What would you consider changing about the community, if anything?

I feel that there are too many channels in this community. Pruning and consolidation are needed to keep this place active and healthy.

Example 1: There are several "arcgis" channels for different topics. Despite the member counts, I'm not confident in getting replies by posting in the "appropriate" channel. If I have an ArcGIS Pro or Desktop question, I'm going to post in #arcgis because there's a better chance someone is going to see it and respond. I know this isn't the right way to do things, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who operates like this. To solve this, message topics could be enforced by admins, or channels could be consolidated/pruned (at least while the community remains small like it is right now).

Example 2: Channels like #data-sources, #opendata, and #data-prospecting, are great concepts. But membership and activity are low. While we remain a smaller community, we should consolidate similar channels where it makes sense. I'm sure a single channel for talking data repositories and data processing would attract more users and increase discussion.

Which of the listed admin tasks would you be most able to support?

  1. Channel pruning/consolidation
  2. Code of conduct updates/enforcement
  3. Inviting/welcoming/guiding users
  4. Doc updates
  5. Bot maintenance (very interested, but not too experienced)

Any other special skills or relevant experience?

  • I have decent python experience, mainly in building GIS tools, that would probably transfer to bot maintenance.
  • Building/maintaining technical documentation for large orgs
  • Subreddit moderation and site re-design (big flex, i know =P)

What channels do you currently spend time in - or, what are your areas of experience?

  • arcgis, -pro, -desktop, -web
  • generative-ai
  • newcomer-questions
  • random
  • political-dumpster-fire...

Where in the world are you located, and what timezone are you in?

California UTC -8
