ESM and experimentalModuleSpecifier: The requested module './some-module' does not provide an export named 'SomeExport'

I am not sure whether this is a bug so I decided to raise it as a question here.

I have a package.json with type: module.

My TS Node version:

Now if I transpile the project with tsc and run it with node --experimental-module-specifier=node index.js everything works.
But running ts-node index.ts complains that some module does not have an export named SomeExport
Note that SomeExport is not a default export. It is an interface in my case which is exported among several other things.

Is this a limitation of all the experimental stuff or a bug or misconfiguration on my side?

Turned out it is caused by the same problem in #1353
