Normalisation (downmixing)

Hey man, currently you have my favourite config-builds out of the bajilion that exist, and for displaying HDR content I don't think I've found any better, so thank you ^^ My simple question though is for when I am using (stereo, Sennheiser) headphones, watching content with say a 7.1 mix, and using Equalizer APO with HeSuVi virtualization; does your normalisation downmixing (which is on by default) get in the way of this at all (i.e. mess up the audio)? I haven't (yet) noticed a great deal of difference whether it's on or off with the same headphones, but I'm curious on your input for future reference. Also I normally use the PC audio through a couple of wireless earbuds.

I'm glad you like my config! A tip to maximise your displays HDR capabilities is to tweak the gamma/contrast/brightness. Keep in mind this is on a per file basis but the changes are persistent even in playlists.

I'm not too familiar with the software you mentioned but i think as long as it doesn’t' do any downmixing it should be fine.

Edit: I have set my display to work properly with Windows HDR calibration, but I am confused about the values for mpv. Like I see that target_contrast=4000 by default, but what does that correspond to? Does it correspond to the Windows HDR settings (which defaults to 40) or directly to the display? Contrast on my display (LG UHD TV) is set to max (100).
The settings target-peak=1000 sub-hdr-peak=1000, I understand to be ones that should be set to the value I've obtained through HDR calibration, or am I wrong?

Peak refers to your displays claimed peak brightness. Contrast should also match what is claimed by your display. If you don’t know these values just leave it as auto. You can read about these settings in the manual.

Edit: Holy shit, I just figured it out and the effects are insane. Downloading VESA DisplayHDR CTS 1.2 test tool really helped!
