How does FluidVoice make money?

As they say that if it is free, you are the product. I am aware of two gotchas - (a) analytics are on by default, and (b) Fluid1 model is closed source.

I wonder how FluidVoice makes money, and what the tradeoffs are.

We don't make money and want to commoditize basic dictation. We don't do this full time so we don't need to charge to survive :)

Analytics is to make us understand if people are using the app.

Based on what is publicly visible:

1. The open-source core (FluidVoice app) is free and likely stays free -- it is the community/distribution layer.

2. The Fluid1 model being closed source is the key monetization lever. The app can be free while the best/neural voices require either a paid tier, API credits, or come with the closed-source model bundled under different licensing.

3. Analytics being on by default is a standard telemetry play -- usage data helps them improve the product and potentially demonstrates value to investors or enterprise customers.

4. The likely business model is freemium: free tier with basic/offline voices, paid tier for premium neural voices or commercial use. This is the same pattern as ElevenLabs, Whisper-based wrappers, and most TTS startups.

Your two gotchas are accurate. If privacy matters to you, disable analytics in settings and stick with the offline/open voices. If you need the best quality, you are the customer for the paid/closed-source tier.

Thanks, I wish the developer were this direct in their response to my question. Just a tiny feedback for them. Big appreciation for FluidVoice though.

My answer was direct in the way i thought it was :) sorry if it wasn't a 4 paragraph answer haha. i am doing it because i like it and that people like what i do - so i keep doing it! Don't really care bout money rn
