VS Code extension

Was looking at getting started witih a test deployment of CoreOS, and therefore Butane to generate Ingition files.

As far as I can tell there is no official VS Code extension ?

It would clearly be a good addition to the project because of the benefits of lint-as-you-type.

Ah thats a fun idea; I like that, so basically have a vscode extension which runs a verify on save?

Wouldn't it suffice to solve #363? Providing a schema would be IDE agnostic and help with validating the Ignition files on the fly.

I mean, I don't know how VSCode works its magic, but I think the word "suffice" in your suggestion might be doing a bit too much heavy lifting. 😉

It would probably be a good start, but AFAIK you can't just point VSCode at a json file ?

Yeah, it probably depends on what you want to achieve. "Embedding" butane in VS Code as extension and invoking --check would work I suppose (not sure any of the other commands would be helpful; maybe --strict?), however, if you simply want to ensure your config is valid then validating it against a schema file would work just as well.

VS Code supports schema validation of JSON and YAML files out of the box (same with other IDEs) and would point out syntax errors based on the chosen spec.
