When will Mono being dropped in .NET 12 be announced

I've been told by multiple Microsoft employees that .NET 11 will be the last version with the Mono runtime and that it's gonna be deleted in .NET 12 with all platforms on CoreCLR/NativeAOT, either via JIT, AOT or Interpreter.

AFAIR there has not been any official announcement for this though so I'd like to ask for one to be made, including info like when'll the code be deleted and how long will Mono be supported in 10 and 11.

I'd like to see the announcement to claim "absorb" more than "deprecate". During the years we have absorbed various components from Mono, and potentially more in the future. It's only the Mono runtime reaching its sunset.

Well one of the main usecases for Mono today is still embedding AFAIR, which has not been integrated into CoreCLR at all (partially due to not being compatible with the more complex GC).

The problem with the Mono embedding APIs is that their design does not meet performance and reliability bar for modern .NET. Nothing to do with more complex GC.

CoreCLR can be "embedded" like Mono and there are number of examples of it being done, just not using Mono embedding APIs.

Yeah I've meant the Mono API in particular, not general embedding.

IIRC Unity was working on porting parts of it to CoreCLR though.

Right, that's the reliability and performance problem. There is nothing fundamental about CoreCLR GC that prevents it from being conservative in the same way, with the same reliability and performance issues.
