Bug: Quick access icon disappearance leads to exit crash

Description

My Files is set to open to the Home screen. Sometimes when I move into a drive, like C for instance, the quick access icons are missing if I back-arrow back to the home screen. I can click a different pinned location and then click back to Home to get the icons to return, but sometimes Files crashes and immediately exits as soon as I click Home.

Steps To Reproduce

Open files to the Home screen.
Enter the C drive and click around a bit.
Use the back arrow to return to the Home screen.
The Quick access icons should be gone.

You can choose another pinned location and return to Home to get the icons to reappear, but sometimes Files will crash when choosing Home this final time.

I'll have to keep an eye on this. At the time I filed the report I was able to reproduce this bug multiple times, but right now I can't seem to make it happen. This bug happened to me yesterday as well, so next time I see this I will take a screenshot with the quick-access icons missing.

I'm pretty sure I had this issue before and after updating to the latest version.

This was a known issue in v4.0.11 but we included a fix in v4.0.20. Please let us know if you can still reproduce it in v4.0.20.

Yeah, maybe the .20 update fixed it. I can't get it to crash now. But a couple days ago I could do this easily.

Here you go. I just got version .21 to do this twice.

Once, it opened with the icons missing, the second time I clicked the C drive from the pinned section and then clicked back to Home.

I thought you were talking about the sidebar icons (there was a known issue in v4.0.11), but it looks fine in that screenshot. Do you mean the Quick Access widget on the home page?

yes, the quick access widget at the top has the icons missing. The sidebar icons can get these back by clicking another drive and then back to Home, but occasionally clicking Home causes the file manager to exit.

I can get this to happen about every 4-5 launches now. The widget icons always disappear, but it rarely crashes, but does occasionally.

Okay I worked through some of this.
I changed "keep running in windows" to off, restarted and then reset this setting to keep it running.
I changed my windows file manager settings... no option to clear history.
So far I can't get the icons to disappear again, or crash.

I was able to make this happen every 4-5 launch. Now I can't get these icons to disappear.

I'm definitely happy enough with Files. But if I can help find a bug I want to help.

I also requested the empty folder text to be blue and access denied folder font to be red yesterday. I'm a new convert to Files, and still getting comfy with it's differences.

Thanks! If you have any ideas to help us reproduce this issue, it will certainly make it easier for us to try to fix it. We've gotten quite a few reports, but nothing stood out so far to help us reproduce the issue on our end.
