Until now I thought: a) Heartbeats are for networking; not QSOs. I never logged a qso based on a HB. and b) many users let their stations run 24/7 and use the networking / messaging features for async contacts - is that no so? (I mean, I also would prefer more people using it keyboard to keybord, dont misunderstand me) |

This has indeed become a problem with the users that like "bot mode". So some time back, even if you do have your station configured to automatically "ACK" HB's, I made a change in the code to give MSG's higher priority than the ACK autoresponse so if you are picking up valid MSG's your station won't suddenly fire up and break them. This does not by any means eliminate the problem with the HB networking system. It has been discussed before. Some people think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, others hate it: |

@Chris-AC9KH You gave priority for HB over messages !! This is not with spirit of initial goal of JS8 mode ! What I'm suprizing about is that: I'm already disabled HB & disabled autoreplay, but why HB appearing to me "asking for SNR?" ?!! Is this a bug ?? Such notification should not appearing to me at all ! Or there is something I misunderstood about this issue ?? |

@Nokia808 that was done for certain directed commands because some people went into an uproar over not getting their regularly schedule SNR reports. So the only HB ACK restriction I left in place was suppressing the ACK response if your station senses MSG'ing activity and you have auto HB ACK enabled. It will not allow your station to respond with an automatic ACK if there's MSG's being sent. Even with HB and autoreply disabled you will still pick up other people sending them, your station just won't automatically reply to it. |

@Chris-AC9KH No problem at all if I'm still pick up other people sending HB ! Let them appearing in area of decoded messages. But, what is horrible is that when someone send ME HB asking me for NSR or other commands & his/her HB not only appearing in the area of decoded messages, BUT A NEW WINDOWS POP TO ME ASKING ME TO CONFIRM SENDING HIM/HER A REPLAY OR NOT !! This POP WINDOW should never ever appearing as long as user already disable HB ! If user already disable HB, this mean simply that he/she dislike HB or heat HB so why this pop window emerging to him/her ?! Just if you make this pop window disabled when user disable HB this will be very okay & very logical. |

@Nokia808 Make sure both of these checkboxes are unchecked in Settings > General > Networking & Autoreply 
Also uncheck the last three boxes in the Mode menu. 
The behavior that you describe is optional. |

@rruchte The cause for not unchecking, is that I'm already unchecked "Turn autoreply on at startup" so why I need to uncheck "Ask for confirmation ......" ?! It should be disabled when I already unchecked "Turn autoreply on at start up" ! In fact it should be freeze when unchecked "Turn autoreply on at start up". This what logic make user thinking about ! Just when you asked to unchecked, I unchecked it ! |

I recently added a new feature also, that shuts down frequency HB'ers and permanently blocks them. So maybe when JS8Call 3 comes out (sometime in the next 2-3 weeks) @Nokia808 can try that too and see how it works. |

It's at the bottom of your Heartbeat Network settings. If you have HB ACK enabled it will automatically add stations to the HB blacklist that send out HB's at <55 minutes. What I do is typically clear the blocklist every couple days and give 'em a second chance. They get one HB the first time they send one out, the second time at <55 minutes they are blocked.

This is not a bug, but a feedback from a disappointed user !
Yesterday, I tried JS8Call on 40mb in a bad propagation condition. I used 50W with telescopic whip from CHAMELEON ANTENNA company 45 deg up slope at rail of my balcony in 2nd floor apartment (not allowed for long wire in my complex). JS8 worked & reached to Sweden & I copied many stations .....
However, it was a horrible session !!! The heartbeat option KILL the original proposal of this nice program !!! Almost all users used ONLY heartbeat & refused to make keyboard-to-keyboard QSO !!! From my side I'm already disabled auto-replay option. I received so many requests for SNR? needed "automatic replay" from me. Instead allowing automatic replay, I sent them hello & name, QTH data, finally BTU in hope that one of them replay me so that I will send SNR to him. Only one STN replied me but in very quick way: name, my SNR & 73 ! No further replay from him about his Rig !! I thought that down propagation was the cause, but later on I discovered that the real cause is that no one like to make real QSO & just using JS8Call for heartbeat contacts ! While I was calling one of STN replied me "No one like CQ" ! I shocked by this !! After that I re-inspect what my JS8Call decoded for me: almost was only heartbeat signals !! I copied signals even from USA on 7.078 MHz but all were heartbeat. I tried to sent message to many of the detected call signs but no replay at all. All what II received were request for automatic SNR replay !!
Is this what the original developer of JS8Call program goal from developing this program ?!! As, developer of FT8 kill FT8 by "automatic contact" option made it PC-to-PC contact rather than human-to-human & by shorten message to only SNR & 73 while leave 13 characters for customize message that no one use it while he is able to make these 13 characters obligatory for PWR & ANT making contact REAL QSO of SCIENTIFIC value killing real QSO making it's program for a meaningless contacts have popularity just for collection of so many "pseudo QSO" for purpose of upgrading license level, here in JS8 mode the "heartbeat" options making the same & instead from making real QSO almost of users using JS8 mode same way as for FT8 !!! Really disappointing !
Kindly, read this feedback & give it a moment as you already did with requests to make "heartbeat" & "automatic replay" of the "1st priority" !
JS8 used NOT for the original target that initially developed for it.
