self hosting with github user_token?

im interested in running pr-agent as a service in EKS. I suspect I want to use it with the github_app startup commands, but I'm curious to know if it is possible to do it by using user_token as a means to authenticate to github rather than a github app? will it actually load and authenticate with the token if it is defined and present?
