feat(frontend): static project site — real evidence data, new design and logo - #265
Implements the static frontend according to contributor brief v3 (29 October 2026), replacing legacy multi-page drafts with a single-page, evidence-first site.
Real data only: Every result, count, date and revision on the page is worked out from a snapshot of the official Hugging Face dataset AOSSIE/openverifiable-enwiki-20260901-20260918-r1-evidence, pinned to revision 96dc282a, and the v1.1.0 GitHub release. A mismatch shows as a mismatch, and a missing check shows as not checked. The positions of the host failure and the code change are read from docs/how-it-works.md at v1.1.0, which the page links to; their results come from the checks.
Fail-closed consistency checks: validate.ts checks the snapshot against itself with no hand-typed numbers. It recomputes each chain entry's hash from its published record, requires the records to rebuild the chain.jsonl the anchor names, compares coverage and counts with the raw check rows, checks the fork point against the run's own entry, and restricts the dataset, release tag and revision to their exact formats. Prebuild runs it before Vite bundling, and the page shows an error rather than bad evidence. This is not cryptographic verification: a rewrite of the records, every hash and the anchor together would pass, and only ovl.py verify checks the timestamp signatures. The README sets out the limits.
One continuous research report: Sections are split by thin rules rather than boxes, with the heading on the left and the evidence on the right. The reading order is what the project is, how it works, what was checked and by whom, what happened in training, how to check it yourself, the release files and common questions. Each section leads with one visual: a process line, the coverage map with project and independent checks kept separate, a training timeline, and loss bars on one shared scale. Methods, long commands and hashes fold away. The caveats stay visible: 0 independent checks, "self-reported and not yet signed", the hardware results and the limits of the exclusion fork. System fonts only, light by default with an opt-in dark theme, and no scroll animation, 3D or WebGL.
New logo, the segment check: A solid slab check whose long stroke is cut once by a flat gap: two pieces joined in a chain, like two training segments meeting at a recorded checkpoint. A gold mark in dark mode and a dark mark on a gold tile in light mode. Self-hosted SVGs in public/brand/, plus the official AOSSIE logo. The existing brand/logo.svg is untouched; this is a proposal.

The "Check it yourself" section guides visitors from lightweight exploration to bit-for-bit reproduction:
2 min: Try the model via Ollama (ollama run ryoari/openverifiablellm) — demo, checks nothing.
10 min: Consistency check on CPU with the v1.1.0 verify script, pinned to the evidence revision — release matches record, no recomputation.
1 hour: Bit-for-bit recomputation on RTX 5090 via RunPod template — recomputes training segment and compares SHA-256 byte for byte.

Test & Audit Results
Unit tests (Vitest): 157 / 157 passed
Validator tests that corrupt the real snapshot: changed chain fields with unchanged hashes, raw checks, coverage, anchor, hashes, timestamps, hardware map, fork point, and shell characters in the dataset and release tag
Mismatches, missing checks and independent results rendered through the components
Copy lint: banned terms, and no evidence values typed into the copy
Browser & Accessibility (Playwright + Axe): 49 / 49 passed, run locally on Chrome and in the official Playwright Linux image
1440, 1024, 768, 720, 390 and 320px in light and dark, folded sections closed and open: 0 WCAG 2.2 AA violations from axe, no horizontal overflow
Figures aligned at 1440, 1024, 768, 390 and 320px: one top edge per row, one line per value, tabular lining numerals
Corrupted evidence refused on the page; mismatch and missing-check states shown correctly
Keyboard: skip link, a focus ring on every control, nothing hidden under the sticky bar
All evidence links point at the pinned revision
10-minute check: the exact commands from the page were run in a clean python:3.12-slim container at the pinned revision: hashes OK, chain head MATCH (38 entries), FreeTSA and DigiCert timestamps OK, weights MATCH chain entry 37, verify PASS. On Windows, verify finds no CA bundle for the timestamps, and the page says so. The RTX 5090 segment check was not run.
Production Bundle:
Gzip JavaScript size: about 86 kB (well below the 120 kB budget)
Prebuild validation executes automatically prior to build

feat(frontend): static project site — real evidence data, new design and logo
Oct 30, 2026
Thanks for this. The check ladder and the evidence fetch follow the brief. Some changes before review:
The kicker says 'Release v1.0.1 · 20 October 2026'. 20 October is when the record was timestamped. v1.0.1 was released on 28 October. Please show the two dates separately.
validate.ts compares the data to numbers typed into the code, for example === 7232582 and === 3.3604. That writes each number by hand a second time. The validator should check structure and internal consistency instead: the number of segments comes from chain.jsonl, every row in verifications.jsonl points at a real segment, and the hashes match release-hashes.txt.
The Playwright and unit tests don't run in CI. Please add a workflow that runs them on every PR.
In the overview text, say who checked: 'recomputed bit for bit on a second RTX 5090 by the project; 0 independent checks so far'. 'Reproduces bit for bit' on its own sounds broader than what was done.
We'll merge one site PR. Review is now, and merges start from 2 Nov.
A scalloped verified seal whose check runs through three dots, the
recorded checkpoints each segment starts and ends on. Blue on light
pages, brighter blue on dark ones; the favicon and app icon use it too.
- System UI font, large centred headlines, white and light-grey bands
with rounded tiles; one blue for links and the primary action.
- Light theme is the default; dark mode stays behind the toggle.
- The hero shows the consistency check as a dark app window, and the
Verification band is black in both themes.
- Green and red still mean only MATCH and MISMATCH.
- Drop the unused Geist sans package; keep Geist Mono for code.
- Tests follow the new default theme. axe: 0 violations at 1440, 720
and 390 px in both themes.
Reverts the product-page restyle (73ef3a2): black page, gold accent,
Geist type and dark-by-default theme are back. The checkpoint seal logo
from 63bb71c stays.
A solid slab check whose long stroke is cut once by a flat gap: two
pieces joined in a chain, like two training segments meeting at a
recorded checkpoint. Gold on dark, ink on light; the favicon and app
icon use it knocked out of a gold rounded tile. The header wordmark is
set extra-bold to sit with the heavier mark.
- Hero: show the release label above the headline.
- Timeline: the ticks are evenly spaced, so mark the conversation phase
as not to scale and state both phase durations, computed from the
chain data.
- Exclusion: "Every other gap in the data is refused."
- Downloads: the Ollama row says "Install with ollama run" instead of
offering to copy a placeholder in place of a hash.
- Footer: drop the extra AOSSIE tagline.
…n quote
- Hero: a short centred headline; below it a laptop with its lid half
closed. As the hero scrolls, the lid opens and the laptop grows until
the verifier screen (built from evidence.json) fills the view.
- "How it's checkable": six steps on a checkpoint chain that fills in
as you scroll, each with a preview drawn from the evidence.
- Chain quote: the claim next to the last three real chain entries,
with each entry's "previous" visibly matching the hash above it.
- What's proven: outline cards with small drawings from the data.
- Plain ruled rows instead of boxed cards; a short numbered FAQ; a
one-row call to action with the real cost of a check.
- Gold in five shades on a neutral page; Inter for text; smaller,
consistent type scale.
- Scroll effects are off on narrow screens and with reduced motion,
where the page falls back to a plain stacked layout.
- The 20 Oct seal flies in from the top-left corner and settles on its
card as you scroll; scrolling back sends it out again.
- Verification and the Training timeline fill with a warm yellow as you
scroll into them, every colour mixed steadily by scroll progress.
- The hardware table sits beside the detection-odds graph and follows
the page colours, so it stays readable on the yellow band.
- More room for the data; drop the hardware note and the timeline chart
caption, which repeated the lines next to them.
- The header pill is solid as soon as it appears, so page text never
shows through it; timeline event blocks get steadier spacing.
- The swipeable mobile rows are keyboard-focusable regions (axe).
- All motion is off with prefers-reduced-motion.
Thanks for the review. All four points are addressed in 02d73a2:
Dates. The hero label now separates the release date from the record timestamp: Release v1.0.1 · 28 October 2026 · Record timestamped 20 October 2026. The 20 October date is the RFC 3161 timestamp (DigiCert and FreeTSA) and shows the record existed by then, not when or how training ran.
Structural validation (src/data/validate.ts). The hand-typed numbers and loss values are gone. The validator now checks invariants of the data itself, so the build fails if any of them breaks:
the segment count is derived from chain.jsonl (N boundaries → N − 1 segments) instead of being hard-coded;
every check in verifications.jsonl must point to a segment in range (0 ≤ segment < N − 1);
every entry in releaseHashes must be a 64-character hex SHA-256 digest;
the exclusion loss deltas must equal fork loss minus original loss.
CI (.github/workflows/frontend.yml). A new workflow runs typechecking, the unit and validator tests, the production build, and the Playwright + axe tests (WCAG 2.2 AA) on every PR. It is running on this PR and passing ("Frontend Tests & Verification").
Check attribution. The "What's proven" section now states it exactly: "Recomputed bit for bit on a second RTX 5090 by the project; 0 independent checks so far." The hero repeats it in short form ("no outside checks yet"), and the coverage map still shows Independent: 0.
Since then I've also reworked the landing and visual design (later commits on this branch). The PR description has the current screenshots and a note on the scroll effects for review.ect; 0 independent checks so far".
Per maintainer feedback, the site is now a calm reference page with no
scroll animation of any kind:
- A contents sidebar (a collapsible box on narrow screens), a serif
article title with the release and record dates, an infobox, and one
readable column.
- Every section is plain prose with tables: headline results, training
data, the check levels with copyable commands, the coverage map, the
hardware table, the loss table and the downloads with SHA-256.
- The detection-odds chart and the training timeline are bordered
figures with captions; the "self-reported and unsigned" caveat is a
notice box.
- System fonts only (web-font packages removed); light by default with
an opt-in dark theme.
- Removed the landing laptop, the scroll-linked story, stamp and colour
band, the floating header and the fixed bottom bar.
- Tests follow the new layout; axe: 0 violations at 1440, 720 and 390 px
in both themes.
- One consistent article column with a narrower contents sidebar, and a
grey header band.
- Infobox title inside the box, smaller logo, row dividers; drop rows
that repeated the lead.
- Full-width tables with striped rows; "shown / not shown" and "why it
holds / limits" as two light boxes; each check level in a light box.
- The detection-odds chart sits above a full-width hardware table.
- Larger title and section headings, more space between sections.
- Three columns on wide screens: contents, the article (760 px reading
column) and a key-facts card that stays in view (37 / 37 recomputed by
the project, 0 independent, release, data, record stamp, licence,
evidence revision). On narrower screens the card sits under the intro.
- Replaces the floated infobox, so the intro reads at full width.
- Each section opens with an "In short" summary; the tables, figures,
commands and caveats follow unchanged.
- No motion; system fonts; axe: 0 violations at 1440, 720 and 390 px in
both themes.

An aria-label that says all project checks MATCH (Line 56).
A per-cell title "MATCH, checked by the project" (Line 63).
A per-cell title "not checked independently yet" for every independent cell (Line 71).
validate.ts accepts projectResult: 'MISMATCH', and SegmentCoverage.independentResult can be 'MATCH'. A snapshot with a mismatching segment would still show "37 / 37 matched". A segment with an independent result would still show as unchecked.
KeyFacts in Lead.tsx already derives matched from coverage. Use the same approach here.
Also apply the cell p and cell i classes by result, and update the aria-label to use matched and total.
Also applies to: 56-56, 63-63, 71-71

The one-column rule for .steps sat above the .steps declaration, so the
three-column grid won on small screens and squeezed each step into a
narrow column. Move the phone rule after the declaration.
The key facts card drops parameters, training data and licence (the lead

about as tall as the lead beside it. Section intros, step descriptions,
explain boxes and FAQ answers are cut to a sentence or two.

The serif falls back to Georgia, whose old-style numerals rise and drop around the baseline, so values looked misaligned though their boxes matched. Use the sans with lining numerals, keep values on one line, and stop the header overflowing at 320px. Adds alignment tests at 1440, 768, 390 and 320px.

Bind displayed chain fields to their hashed source lines.
A snapshot can change time or control without changing entryHash or previous. validateEvidence accepts that data because it checks only hash shape and link continuity. The UI can then display values that are not covered by the evidence hash.
Retain each canonical chain.jsonl line in the snapshot, or hash a canonical representation of every displayed boundary. Make validateEvidence recompute the SHA-256 value and compare the parsed source fields with index, kind, control, state, model, previous, and time before accepting the snapshot.

Update validateEvidence to bind every displayed chain boundary field to the
evidence covered by its hash: retain the canonical chain.jsonl line or use the
established canonical representation, recompute its SHA-256 value, and compare
the parsed source fields for index, kind, control, state, model, previous, and
time before accepting the snapshot. Preserve the existing continuity checks, and
establish the canonicalization and hash input from the evidence format rather

Reject inconsistent project coverage during validation.
The generator correctly derives MISMATCH when all project checks for a segment mismatch. However, validateEvidence does not enforce that aggregation contract. A snapshot can therefore retain coverage[s].projectResult === 'MATCH', pass prebuild, and present that segment as matched.
Add a consistency check after validating rawChecks, using KNOWN_CHECKER_MAP to derive the expected project result.
Suggested fix
+ for (let s = 0; s < segmentCount; s++) {+ const projectChecks = rawChecks.filter(+ check => check.segment === s && KNOWN_CHECKER_MAP[check.checker as string] === 'project'+ );+ const expectedResult = projectChecks.some(check => check.result === 'MATCH')+ ? 'MATCH'+ : 'MISMATCH';+ assert(+ coverage[s].projectResult === expectedResult,+ `Coverage result mismatch for segment ${s}: expected ${expectedResult}, got ${coverage[s].projectResult}`+ );+ }

The page stated all-matched results regardless of the data. Results, counts, dates and revisions now come from the snapshot, a mismatch shows as a mismatch, and a missing check shows as not checked. The validator checks summaries against the raw rows, the anchor against the chain, and every field the page reads.
The fetch script derives release hashes, dates, timestamp authorities and counts from the pinned sources. The training code count is 529 lines at the pinned revision, not ~630. The check command is pinned to the evidence revision, and the release label moves to v1.1.0.
Also fixes the project name breaking at 320px, contrast of unchecked cells, label order for screen readers, focus under the sticky bar, and the theme on the error page. Adds regression tests and replaces the fixture copies with small corruptions of the real data.

Derive the fork point instead of typing 30.
This line states an evidence-derived fact as static text: "Entries 0 to 30 of its record are identical to the original." No fetched file, validator rule or lint pattern checks the number. The copy-lint.test.ts banned-value list covers 37, 38, 46, 110, 169 and others, but not 30.
The file header says every sentence that states an evidence result is "worked out from the records". The PR reviewer also asked for hand-typed values to be removed. If the fork point moves in a later snapshot, the page keeps showing 30.
Add a forkPoint field to Facts and compute it from the fork data. For example, use the lowest segment in exclusion.forkChecks. Confirm that this segment is the split point. If it is not, take the value from the fork README or loo-results.json in fetch-evidence.mjs.
Proposed change
- 'Entries 0 to 30 of its record are identical to the original.',+ `Entries 0 to ${f.forkPoint} of its record are identical to the original.`,
In frontend/src/data/facts.ts, add forkPoint: number; to Facts. Then return it from summarize:
+ forkPoint: Math.min(...forkSegmentIds),
Add /\b30\b/ to the banned-value list in copy-lint.test.ts after the change.
As per coding guidelines for this PR: the displayed counts and dates must derive from pinned evidence, not hand-typed values.

… fork point
The validator compared stored hashes without recomputing them, so changing one field could pass. The snapshot now keeps each published chain line, and the validator recomputes its hash, compares the displayed fields with it, and rebuilds the chain.jsonl the anchor names. This is a consistency check, not cryptographic verification, and the README says so.
The dataset, release tag and revision go into links and copyable commands, so they must match their exact formats. The fork point comes from the fork record's from_entry and is checked against the run's own entry. Model size and GPU name come from the evidence.
The fetch script checks release assets against their published digests and the pins against the sources, and two runs now give identical output. Workflow actions are pinned to verified commit SHAs.

The organisation took a whole column beside Project, which left Community lower with a gap above it. It now has its own row, Project and Community sit side by side, and Get help is a row below them.
Claims now say who did what: the project's own recomputation and data rebuild are attributed to it, the timestamps show the record existed by a date, and the fork's missing timestamp at this revision is stated. Detection odds state their assumption.
The training event positions are read from docs/how-it-works.md at the release tag, and the page links there. The validator now requires real dates in the source format, printable boundary times, a supported schema and matching check lists. Fork claims count only project checks, and a rendering failure shows an error instead of a blank page.
The page's check command drops its sample output and states what it needs. It was run in a clean Linux container and passed, timestamps included.

Summary
Implements the static frontend according to contributor brief v3 (29 October 2026), replacing legacy multi-page drafts with a single-page, evidence-first site.
AOSSIE/openverifiable-enwiki-20260901-20260918-r1-evidence, pinned to revision96dc282a, and the v1.1.0 GitHub release. A mismatch shows as a mismatch, and a missing check shows as not checked. The positions of the host failure and the code change are read fromdocs/how-it-works.mdatv1.1.0, which the page links to; their results come from the checks.validate.tschecks the snapshot against itself with no hand-typed numbers. It recomputes each chain entry's hash from its published record, requires the records to rebuild thechain.jsonlthe anchor names, compares coverage and counts with the raw check rows, checks the fork point against the run's own entry, and restricts the dataset, release tag and revision to their exact formats. Prebuild runs it before Vite bundling, and the page shows an error rather than bad evidence. This is not cryptographic verification: a rewrite of the records, every hash and the anchor together would pass, and onlyovl.py verifychecks the timestamp signatures. The README sets out the limits.public/brand/, plus the official AOSSIE logo. The existingbrand/logo.svgis untouched; this is a proposal.📱 Visual Previews
