Line plots for time series

Use Case

Scientists would like to see line plots, instead of scatter plots, for certain reserved columns (time and data_id were mentioned).

I assume this would mean one line per element in the feature selected for "group by" plotted over time against the feature selected for the other axis.

Adding to this, we could potentially do something similar to what we do in TFE, where, if we're plotting against the reserved time column, we add lines between points belonging to the same track. In this case, we could assign a unique data_id to every collection of points that represents one time series.

Since this is a timelapse data, would be great to see these data as trajectories (lines linking consecutive points).

Note from discussion today with Majid:

• Majid would like to have some sort of smoothing window on the line that's rendered (similar to how TFE handles it).

Megan: Make this data driven by having a dropdown with discrete (integer) features, connect by feature value within the same File ID.

SPEC:

• Add a "Connect by" option to the ColorBy panel.
  • This should be two dropdowns, one to choose the feature to use for grouping and another to choose the feature to connect by. Within a group, lines will be drawn between points in ascending order of the connecting feature. ("Connect {group dropdown} by {feature dropdown}")
  • Add "None" as an option to the feature dropdown.
  • Add a checkbox to enable/disable the lines.
  • Default to any feature names that have "time" or "frames" in the name.
• When a feature is selected for connecting by, add a trace to the main Plotly graph that draws a line between points in ascending order of the feature value.
  • Exclude points that are not selected by the group by selection.
• Add the new connect by property to the URL serialization/deserialization.
