Discover the Digital Living Space

A "Data-First" and "Local-First" project, part of the "Tools for Thought" or "Personal Knowledge Management" wave; partly inspired by Ink & Switch and their friends.

See the Digital Living Space website for my vision.

ONX includes:

  • a graph database of data objects, including state handling and update propagation
  • a peer-to-peer network protocol manifesting a distributed graph database
  • a touchscreen HCI for exploring and updating those data objects

The first demo I'm working on is a family Digital Living Space (DLS) mobile device built with Nordic chipsets (nRF52 and nRF54) driving 4-inch touchscreens. I've also got a bright LED lamp and a small remote control device for that, communicating over a radio mesh.

Here the data objects are hyperdata such as notes, documents, messages, comments, tasks, events, contacts, etc., all gathered and organised in lists, collections, sequences and workspaces, building up into notebooks, chat groups, shopping lists, calendars, address books and shared trip or daily planning spaces. There will also be clocks, weather forecasts and calculators, as well as a screen for setting the colour of the LED lamp. You'll be able to pull in pages from Wikipedia and mash up paragraphs from there. All these objects can be arbitrarily interlinked and shared live over the radio mesh.

The DLS device is a view into the single Digital Living Space or "DL-space" that I envisage in the article above.
