New profile: entries under a sub-store are not counted as unencrypted - #2073
Sub-stores: since the count walks sub-folders, it also counted entries under a folder with a .gpg-id of its own. Their recipients didn't change when the profile's root list was written, and Users on the root leaves them alone, as pass does, so the advice "not re-encrypted … open Users to do that" didn't apply to them. They are now left out: an entry is skipped when a folder between it and the profile root (the root excluded) holds a .gpg-id.
Hidden files: the comment now says visible regular files, matching the walker (hiddenFiles false). Leaving out .old.gpg-style files is right for a note.
The English plural in the test: kept as it is (no translator is loaded in tests), as Henk said it's a matter of taste.
Tests
initialiseCountsEntriesInSubfolders gains a store with top.gpg plus a team/ sub-store (team/.gpg-id, team/a.gpg, team/deep/b.gpg). The note counts 1, not 3; it fails without the change. make check passes.
GPG and Git operations now use the configured GPG home when its directory exists. If the setting is empty or the directory is unavailable, they retain the inherited environment. When signing fails because the configured directory is missing, the error note identifies that directory.
The existing-file notice excludes encrypted files beneath nested directories with their own .gpg-id. Linked .gpg-id files count as lists when using pass; the native backend ignores them. Top-level files and files in other subdirectories remain eligible.
It looks like this branch is under active development. To avoid overwhelming you with review comments due to an influx of new commits, CodeRabbit has automatically paused this review. You can configure this behavior by changing the reviews.auto_review.auto_pause_after_reviewed_commits setting.
Profile initialization now applies an existing configured GPG home to Git and signer processes. Signing errors identify a configured home that does not exist. The encrypted-file notice count excludes files beneath nested directories with their own .gpg-id, with linked-list handling that depends on the backend.

Summary
Apply GPG home to process environments src/profileinit.cpp, tests/auto/profileinit/tst_profileinit.cpp
Git and signer processes use the configured GPG home when its directory exists. If signing fails and the directory does not exist, the error note includes its absolute path. Tests check the process environment and missing-directory error.
Exclude nested stores from entry count src/profileinit.cpp, tests/auto/profileinit/tst_profileinit.cpp
The encrypted-file scan excludes files beneath nested directories with their own .gpg-id. Linked .gpg-id files count as lists with pass and are ignored by the native backend. Tests cover these cases.
IJHack/QtPass#2070: Signed profile commits in that PR use the Git environment updated here.
Merge Risk: Low · previous review 35431
When a profile is initialized with the pass backend, a folder whose .gpg-id links to the root list can have its entries left out of the notice about files that still use old recipients. This only affects the warning, so the change can merge with this edge case known or fixed in a follow-up.

A rabbit checks the GPG home, Then watches Git and signers roam. Nested stores leave the count, Linked lists vary by backend’s account. The notice keeps its files in view, And missing paths appear there too.
Comment @coderabbitai help to get the list of available commands.
Re CodeRabbit's comment outside the diff (profileinit.cpp, the git environment): right, and it went further than git. ProfileInit's processes ran in the plain system environment, while every other gpg and git call gets the configured GPG home (Pass::init sets GNUPGHOME when the folder exists). So a new profile's .gpg-id was also signed in the default keyring, which may not hold the signing key. ImitatePass's signer runs in the store's environment, ProfileInit's did not.
Fixed in a987a46: withGpgHome() applies the same rule as Pass::init() (the configured home when it exists, otherwise the inherited GNUPGHOME stays) to the .gpg-id signer and to git. New test initialiseSignsInTheConfiguredGpgHome: a stand-in gpg logs the GNUPGHOME it sees, which must be the configured home. It fails with the signer on the plain environment. make check passes, 1516/1516.

It leaves out exactly what a root-level Users run doesn't touch: an entry is skipped when a folder between it and the root (the root itself excluded) has its own list. The walk stops at the root, at a path boundary (root + '/'), so /store-other is never taken for /store.
walkStore() returns absolute, non-canonical paths built from the same cleanPath/absolutePath root, so the string prefix compare holds, also for a linked root.
The test has an entry directly in the sub-store and one a level deeper (team/deep/b.gpg), and the count is exact ("1 encrypted"). note is cleared by initialise(), so the earlier halves can't make it pass.
The comment now says "visible", which matches the walker.
withGpgHome() follows Pass::init(): the configured home only when it exists (made absolute first), otherwise the inherited GNUPGHOME. It applies to both the signer and every git call (gitEnvironment()), so a signed commit (commit.gpgsign) uses the same keyring as the .gpg-id signature.
The test logs the home from both stand-ins, requires both logs to be non-empty, and fails with either one on the plain environment.
Pedantic: Pass::init() reports a configured home that doesn't exist (statusMsg, "does not exist, using …"), but withGpgHome() falls back silently. For a new profile, that means the signature fails later with gpg's "no secret key", and the actual cause (the missing home) goes unnamed. That note could go in *note. The rule now also exists twice; a shared Util::gpgHomeEnvironment() would keep the two copies from drifting apart.
A linked .gpg-id (symlink or junction) no longer makes its folder a sub-store, as in Pass::isOwnGpgId(), and the new test (Unix) counts team/a.gpg behind a linked list. One tiny difference remains: a directory named .gpg-id is no list here (isFile()), but it is one for isOwnGpgId() (exists()). Nobody makes that on purpose; I'm only mentioning it in case the two are ever shared.
Pedantic, non-blocking
2. Each entry checks every ancestor folder, so a large store does a few thousand extra stats. That's nothing for a one-off note. If it ever matters, remember the folders already checked.
Missing GPG home: if signing fails while the configured home doesn't exist, the note now adds "The configured GPG home … does not exist." after gpg's own text. That matches what Pass::init() reports. Tested, and the test fails without the change.
Duplicated rule: I left it duplicated for now. Pass::init() also emits the status message and picks between two fallbacks, so a shared Util::gpgHomeEnvironment() would only cover part of it. I'll do that in a separate cleanup if it comes up again.
Directory named .gpg-id and the extra stats: noted, and left as they are.
Also new: CodeRabbit pointed out that with the pass backend a linked team/.gpg-idis a list of its own (pass follows the link). Those entries are now left out of the count there. The native backend works as before.

Henk on #2072: since the count walks sub-folders, it also counted
entries under a folder with a .gpg-id of its own. Their recipients did
not change when the profile's root list was written, and Users on the
root leaves them alone, as pass does, so "not re-encrypted ... open
Users to do that" did not apply to them. They are left out now; the
comment says "visible" regular files, as the walker skips hidden ones.

CodeRabbit: ProfileInit's processes ran in the plain system environment,
while every other gpg and git call of QtPass gets the configured GPG
home (Pass::init sets GNUPGHOME when that folder exists). So a new
profile's .gpg-id was signed in the default keyring, which may not hold
the signing key, and a commit git signs through gpg used it too.
withGpgHome() applies the same rule to the signer and to git; a home
that does not exist leaves the inherited GNUPGHOME, as Pass::init does.
Test: a stand-in gpg logs the GNUPGHOME it runs with; it fails with the
signer on the plain environment.

CodeRabbit: the test ran without git, so gitEnvironment() was not
covered. A recording git stand-in now logs the GNUPGHOME it runs with,
and both logs must hold the configured home; with git's environment
back on the plain one, the test fails.

CodeRabbit: QFileInfo::isFile() follows a link, so a sub-folder whose
.gpg-id is a symbolic link (or junction) counted as a sub-store and its
entries were left out of the note. Everywhere else in QtPass a linked
.gpg-id is no list; here too now. Tested with a linked .gpg-id (Unix).

…ng GPG home
With the pass backend, a linked sub-folder .gpg-id is a list of its own:
pass follows the link (`-f`), so Users on the profile's root leaves that
folder's entries on the linked list. They are no longer counted as
entries Users would re-encrypt. The native backend still skips a linked
list, so there they count, as before.
A signature that fails while the configured GPG home does not exist now
says so: withGpgHome() fell back to the inherited home, and gpg's "no
secret key" did not name the cause (as Pass::init() reports it).

With the pass backend, a sub-folder whose .gpg-id links to the profile's
own root list gets the root's recipients: pass re-encrypts every entry
against its nearest list, so Users on the root re-encrypts these too.
They count again instead of being left out as a sub-store's.

CI on ece08df: 30 pass, 3 skipping. Rebased onto main (#2078): git range-diff shows every commit unchanged, so this review of 08e6605 holds for ece08df.
Re-review of 354318b and 08e6605 (since my approval on fcb6a8e; 2abc3ff only merges main), checked against pass's reencrypt_path().
With pass, a linked .gpg-id is a list. reencrypt_path() looks for each entry's nearest list with [[ -f $current/.gpg-id ]], which follows the link. So Users on the root re-encrypts that folder's entries against the linked list, i.e. leaves them as they are, and leaving them out of the count is right. The native backend keeps skipping a linked list (isOwnGpgId()), so there they still count. A dangling link is no list for either (-f and isFile() are both false).
The missing GPG home is now named in the note, next to gpg's own error, as Pass::init() does. The test checks both texts.
A link to the root's own list: reencrypt_path() reads the new root recipients through that link, so Users on the root does re-encrypt those entries, and they count. canonicalFilePath() on both sides also catches a chain of links and a root behind a link.
return false at the first such folder is right, because the nearest list decides. a/.gpg-id (own) with a/b/.gpg-id -> root counts a/b/x.gpg. The other way round (a/.gpg-id -> root, a/b/.gpg-id own) the walk stops at b first and leaves it out. That matches pass.
rootList is empty when no recipient was chosen (no .gpg-id written), so the check simply doesn't apply then.
Pedantic, non-blocking
A hard link to the root list doesn't match canonicalFilePath(), so it counts as a list of its own (left out). Whether that's right depends on whether the root list is written in place (the hard link sees the new recipients) or replaced. Too rare to change anything for; I'm only noting it.
