Kimi CLI (this repository) is no longer maintained and is being archived. It has been replaced by Kimi Code CLI, the next-generation terminal AI agent from the same team. It is rebuilt as a native binary with faster startup and a redesigned terminal UI, and remains under active development.

What this means

This repository	Will be archived (read-only). No further releases, bug fixes, or security updates.
Existing installations	No longer supported, and will stop working. Please migrate as soon as possible.
PyPI packages (kimi-cli, kimi-code, kosong, pykaos, kimi-sdk)	kimi-cli 1.51.0 is the final release. These packages will be archived on PyPI. Published versions remain installable, but no new versions will be released.
Issues and pull requests	No longer triaged or merged. If an issue still applies to Kimi Code CLI, please re-file it at MoonshotAI/kimi-code.
Security reports	Please follow Kimi Code CLI's security policy.
Source code	Remains available under the Apache License 2.0.

How to migrate

1. Install Kimi Code CLI:
   • macOS / Linux: curl -fsSL https://code.kimi.com/kimi-code/install.sh | bash
   • Windows (PowerShell): irm https://code.kimi.com/kimi-code/install.ps1 | iex
   • Or: brew install kimi-code / npm install -g @moonshot-ai/kimi-code
2. Run kimi in a new terminal and accept the migration prompt, or run kimi migrate at any time.
3. Run /login again and re-authorize your MCP servers.

FAQ

Will I lose my config or chat history?
No. Migration copies your config, MCP servers, input history, and the sessions you choose. It never modifies or deletes ~/.kimi/. Login credentials, MCP authorizations, and Kimi CLI plugins are not migrated.

I use Kimi CLI in Zed / JetBrains via ACP. What should I do?
Kimi Code CLI supports ACP through the same kimi acp command. See the ACP docs.

I installed kimi-code from PyPI. Is that the new version?
No. The kimi-code package on PyPI is a legacy alias of Kimi CLI. Please install Kimi Code CLI using one of the methods above.

What about kosong, pykaos, and kimi-sdk?
They are discontinued together with this repository. Published versions remain available on PyPI.

Can I fork Kimi CLI?
Yes, under the terms of the Apache License 2.0.
