🚨 Severity: HIGH
💡 Vulnerability: The
TriggerKitautomation executor'sopenURLstep allowed execution of any URL scheme. This meant that malicious or untrusted automations could execute.appfiles or scripts via thefile://scheme, or manipulate system settings viax-apple.systempreferences:, bypassing the app sandbox when passing those strings toNSWorkspace.shared.open.🎯 Impact: Attackers could craft automations that break out of app boundaries to run arbitrary local code or manipulate macOS system preferences.
🔧 Fix: Rather than breaking legitimate automation functionality using a strict allowlist (e.g.
shortcuts://), an explicit security blocklist was added to reject inherently dangerous schemes (file,x-apple.systempreferences) in both the runtime executor (AutomationExecutor.swift) and the validation phase (AutomationProgram+Validation.swift). Security comments were added to explain this defense.✅ Verification: Ran testing simulations, statically verified test suites, requested AI code review, and performed pre-commit reflections.
