When a new BFB is uploaded to a DPU, the iPXE script ends in a bare exit, leaving it to the firmware to continue down the boot order and start the OS from the local drive. That does not always work — the DPU sometimes just hangs instead of booting from disk. This may become less important if NICO gets rid of PXE DPU provisioning.
