Open OnDemand Governance

The purpose of this repository is to share the Open OnDemand project’s governance process, clarifying how decisions are made and how different parts of the community interact.

The current Open OnDemand Team has been providing informal leadership to the project. With the community’s steady growth, the project has decided to implement a more formal governance structure consisting of a Steering Council and committees, to address the need for a decision-making process, a sustainable revenue generation model, and better guidance to community members who want to get involved.

The foundations of Project governance are:

  • Openness & Transparency
  • Active Contribution
  • Institutional Neutrality

The following outlines the Governance model for the Open OnDemand project.

Open OnDemand Project Vision:

Accelerating discovery, innovation, and learning by empowering researchers, industry professionals, and students to fully harness powerful computing resources.

Open OnDemand Project Mission:

To make advanced computing resources easy to use through an intuitive web-based platform, while fostering a vibrant community that drives scientific and technological breakthroughs.

Open OnDemand Governance Team Mission:

The Open OnDemand Governance team is dedicated to ensuring the platform’s continued growth and accessibility by stewarding both the project resources and community. We actively engage the community to understand needs and translate that feedback into ongoing code development, maintenance, and documentation.

Steering Council

The Open OnDemand Steering Council is the project’s governing body. Its role is to ensure, through working with and serving the broader Open OnDemand community, the long-term sustainability of the project, both as a software package and a community. The Open OnDemand Steering Council currently consists of the following members (in alphabetical order, by last name):

  • Alan Chalker
