feat!: remove strictMode and make mode-gated failures always reject - #2337
The strictMode client option is removed, and the strict
behaviour is now unconditional.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Breaking Changes
strictMode is no longer available; permission checks now apply unconditionally.
channel.subscribe() rejects with error 90009 when the channel lacks subscribe mode. The listener remains registered and can receive messages once the required mode is granted.
presence.get() rejects with error 91008 when the channel lacks presence_subscribe mode.

Walkthrough
The client no longer supports strictMode. After attachment, subscribe and presence-get calls reject when required channel modes are absent. Public declarations, migration guidance, and tests now describe or exercise these rules.

Summary
API contract and migration guidance packages/core/types.d.ts, docs/migration-guides/v3/lib.md
The declarations remove strictMode and document the rejection conditions for subscribe() and presence.get(). The migration guide explains how to identify affected calls on v2 and lists the change as breaking.
RealtimeChannel and RealtimePresence now throw mode errors without checking strictMode. The warning state and silent-failure log suffix are removed.
Mode-check tests and fixtures packages/core-impl/test/realtime/channel.test.js, packages/core-impl/test/realtime/presence.test.js, packages/core-impl/test/realtime/sync.test.js, packages/core-impl/test/uts/realtime/unit/channels/channel_subscribe.test.ts, packages/core-impl/test/uts/realtime/unit/presence/*
Tests cover rejected calls and retained listeners. ATTACHED fixtures for tests that require subscription or presence access now include the corresponding mode flags.
The updated presence fixtures align with unconditional mode checks. Remaining subscription tests need fixture and promise-handling follow-up; the established risk is limited to test reliability, with no demonstrated production failure.

Explanation
The title names the main change: removing the strictMode client option and making mode-gated failures (channel.subscribe() without subscribe mode, presence.get() without presence_subscribe mode) always reject. The raw summary shows the ClientOptions strictMode property removed, the silent-failure warning path removed in RealtimeChannel, RealtimePresence._getImpl, and Logger, and the tests and migration guide updated to match. The title is concise, specific, and free of file lists or vague wording.

A rabbit reads the mode flags bright, Then sees a rejection, clear and right. A listener waits, still in place, While presence checks the mode with grace. The burrow tests now set flags true, And migration notes explain what to do.

The RTL7a fixture still attaches with flags: 0, then calls subscribe() without awaiting it. The call now rejects with 90009, but the mock still delivers messages to the registered listener, so the test can pass without a successful subscription. Other fixtures in this file have the same pattern. Grant MESSAGE_SUBSCRIBE in those fixtures and await their subscriptions. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

<h3 id="strict-mode">Handle the errors that <code>strictMode</code> enables</h3>
The `strictMode` client option is removed, and its strict behaviour is now the only behaviour. Two calls that v2 let fail silently, logging an error, now reject:

Document the loss of own-member reads.
In v2, presence.get() could return the connection’s own members without presence_subscribe; the RTP17a test demonstrates that state. This is not always a silent failure. Explain that these callers must track their own presence data or handle the rejection if they cannot request the mode.

v2 logged that a future major version would make these calls fail with an
error. v3 is that version, so the option has nothing left to toggle:
channel.subscribe() on a channel attached without the subscribe mode
rejects with 90009, and presence.get() without presence_subscribe rejects
with 91008. subscribe() still registers the listener when it rejects.
The UTS mocks and the sync and presence tests attached with no mode flags,
which a real server never does for a client that requests no modes, so they
now grant the mode they need.
RTP17a reads the presence map directly, since get() rejects without
presence_subscribe.
BREAKING CHANGE: the strictMode client option is removed, and the strict
behaviour is now unconditional.
