Site published via scm-publish:publish-scm leads to incorrect folder structure

The generated site published via scm-publish:publish-scm leads to an incorrect folder structure within the gh-pages branch (for example at 2a2ea12).

The top level folders scm:git:git@github.com:codehaus-plexus/plexus-sec-dispatcher.git are incorrect. The scm-publish-maven-plugin configuration needs to be fixed.

This is caused by the distributionManagement->site->url (which is used for site:stage). It is not the maven-scm-publish-plugin to blame here, but rather the incorrect configuration of site:stage which leads to the following folder structure target/staging/scm:git:git@github.com:codehaus-plexus/plexus-sec-dispatcher.git/....
