Builds on #653 (machine on the build snapshot), now merged.

What and why

The Build tab's header was one 32px row: "Building 0 of 2 started by you 0m [Stop build]". It is now the approved Proposal A, status card from the build-header jig:

  • An inset card with 12px by 16px padding. The top row has the status glyph and title on the left, and the count ("3 of 6 tasks", "4 pull requests") on the right in the extra-small text role.
  • The coding agent's live activity sits just under the title (it fades in as it changes). Otherwise this line shows the state's tip, such as the waiting reason, commits since the first build, or the blocker links.
  • One progress segment per task. Done and running segments use the success graphic; a running one has a soft, lighter sweep that becomes plain green under reduced motion. Blocked segments are warning.
  • The footer's rule runs edge to edge. On the left: the starter's face, "You" or their @handle, and the relative time (left out for a queued build, or when there is no time). Then the machine's icon (laptop or server) and label, from buildMachines in Record which machine runs each build #653. On the right: Stop, Return to planning or Cancel build, at btn-sm.
  • The machine's online dot is 6px, scoped to this card and ringed in the inset colour, and it shows only to the build's starter. Other people see the name and icon only. A build stored before Record which machine runs each build #653 shows no machine.
  • States covered: queued, building, someone else's build (no Stop), stopping, preparing tasks, building changes, build stopped, rebuild failed, built, and waiting on decisions.

Only tokens and existing components (Face, MachineGlyph, BuildGlyph, the shared icons, btn-*). There are no middots.

Things to note

  • Stop's visible text is now "Stop", with a square glyph. Its accessible name stays "Stop build", so the e2e selectors still work.
  • The square has no corner radius: the jig's radius-sm / 2 falls outside the design record's radius scale.
  • The "Updated 2m ago" stamp on the activity line is gone, as in the jig. The footer carries the build's start time instead.
  • The .build-status rule in build-view.css stays, because the phone capsule also uses that class.

Screenshots

The real BuildView is rendered from fixed snapshots in a local, git-ignored harness (Vite page, headless Chromium, reduced motion). Live build states need a running connector and coding agent, so I didn't capture them from the running app. "Before" is the same harness with the base commit's build-view.tsx. "Stopping" is the real Stop button pressed against a request that never answers.

Tests

  • DEMO_PERSONAS=off bun test apps/web/src: the build-model and middot suites pass. The only failures are in the git-ignored design-jig/ files that exist locally, not in CI.
  • bun run types: no errors outside design-jig/. oxlint is clean on the changed files. bun run ci / design:check report findings only in design-jig/.
  • I updated the e2e assertions in implementation-launcher.e2e.ts because the text is now split into title, count and footer: "Built" + "2 pull requests", "Building"/"Queued" + "0 of 2 tasks" + "You", and "Returned for changes" + "Build plan builds it again.". I also dropped the Updated stamp check. I didn't run e2e locally; it is left to CI.

Before: every state in the old one-row header

After: every state as the status card

Base automatically changed from build-machine to main October 16, 2026 12:30
The Build tab's cramped status row becomes an inset card: the state glyph and title
with the task count, the coding agent's live activity, one progress segment per task,
and a footer naming who started the build, when, and the machine it runs on, with the
action on the right. The machine's online dot shows only to the build's starter.
