openwebstart keeps using its own jre to run ilo3 jnlp

Hi All

im not sure if this is by design or just something im doing wrong?

im trying to get the HP iLO3 web start to work correctly.

i have installed openwebstart (ive tried both 1.13 and 1.14), i have NO JRE installed at all

when i run the JNLP it says error out a tls problem (as expected),

but when i click console and read the console/logs its saying it used JRE 11 to run?

so i edit the JNLP to say use only 1.8 instead of 1.5+ but when i run it again, its still saying in the console it ran with JRE 11 ?

i dont have 11 installed at all, so it can only be the included jre for openwebstart

i was able to progress further with the error by removing the TLSv1.1 from disabledAlgorithms inside of the java.security file

then allowing all the certs and warnings etc, but i then just end up with a WHITE blank applet?

a google turns up suggestions to use 1.8.0 but even if i install jre 8, the console still shows it ran with JRE 11 even tho ive forced it to 1.8 !

any suggestions/help would be amazing!

OWS runs in two stages. In the first stage it uses the bundled JRE 11 to luanch itself and download the jnlp file if needed. In the second stage it downloads the jar and launches the Jnlp application with the jre that matches the one specified in the Jnlp file. see JVmManager. Btw, OWS does not support applets, in case you are trying to launch one with OWS.

@janakmulani thanks for the info, thats my issue im having, i get no stage2 log files only stage 1?

but whats confusing me is if i enable logging (all the options and show console)
when i check the console output or indeed the log file, i can see the HP logs like logging in, getting data, starting the machine etc
but yet the applet is completely white !?
so surely (im guessing as i dont code in java) that its indeed downloading the jar and running it, but instead running it in stage 1 and not using an external jre thats in the jvm manager?

You are trying to run an Applet. OWS does not support this. You could try IcedTea-Web https://github.com/AdoptOpenJDK/IcedTea-Web

@janakmulani thank you but i already tried icedtea-web and sadly it does the SAME thing, IDEANTICAL!
but amazingly just installing java directly from oracle and using there javaws.exe works a treat! no problems at all!
but i dont really wanna be bound by their stupid licencing agreement etc

Works for me for the following JNLP file:

Browsers stopped supporting Java Plugin, and hence applets, years ago. Oracle JWS could be using AppletViewer to run an applet. Applet API itself has been deprecated since Java 9.

In stage 1, OWS terminates itself after launching the JNLP application with the matching JVM. For applets, however, OWS stage1 does not proceed to stage 2; instead, it initializes the applet using the same mechanism as IcedTea‑Web and then exits. That's why you are seeing the log file with log HP logs when you run your applet with OWS.

sadly u cant get access to the JNLP directly from the ilo as it downloads it locally
and even running it locally doesnt work :(
