Problem

Every talk in a General Conference got the same pubDate (the 1st of the conference month, UTC), because extractPublicationDate collapsed the per-talk Estimated publish: … timestamp to the conference month. Podcast apps sort by pubDate, so talks inside a conference showed up in arbitrary order (and Oct conferences showed as "Sept 30" in Mountain time). The live all-conference feed had 1,582 items but only 60 distinct pubDates.

Change

  • Read the naive Estimated publish wall-clock time as Mountain time (America/Denver, Salt Lake City, DST-aware via Intl) and use it as the talk's pubDate. Explicit Z/offset timestamps are honored.
  • Bump the media metadata cache version (5 → 6) so cached publication dates are re-extracted after deploy.
  • Update tests: per-talk timestamps, Mountain-time conversion across DST (including pre-2007 DST rules), and the desc:pubDate, path directory feed order (now strictly reverse-chronological, conferences still grouped).

Explicit ID3 full dates (TDRL/TDRC/TXXX) still take precedence; path-based month fallback remains for files without an estimate.

Verification

npm run validate passes locally (296 tests). Simulating against the live all-conference feed: 1,549 distinct pubDates for 1,582 items (remaining collisions are source-data issues in 2014–2017 women's/priesthood sessions and 12 talks without descriptions, being fixed via metadata edits), and all 42 conferences remain contiguous.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Publication dates now reflect each talk’s estimated date and time, rather than defaulting to the first day of the conference month.
    • Times without a timezone are interpreted as Mountain time, including daylight-saving adjustments; timestamps with an explicit timezone retain their specified time.
    • Talks within a conference are now ordered newest to oldest by their individual publication timestamps.

Read the naive 'Estimated publish' timestamp as Mountain time instead of
collapsing it to the first of the conference month, so every talk carries a
distinct, real pubDate and podcast apps sorting by date keep true
chronological order. Bump the media cache version so cached dates refresh.

📝 Walkthrough

Estimated publication dates now retain each talk’s timestamp. Timezone-naive values are interpreted in Mountain time with daylight-saving adjustments. The media cache version increases from 5 to 6.

Timestamp parsing and ordering
app/helpers/media.ts, app/helpers/media.test.ts, app/helpers/sort.test.ts
The media helper converts timezone-naive estimated timestamps from Mountain time and preserves the parsed instant instead of reducing it to the conference month’s first day. The cache version increases to 6. Tests cover daylight-saving conversion, explicit UTC timestamps, and newest-first talk ordering.

Some talks can receive slightly imprecise or incorrect publication dates. The issues are bounded, but correcting the parser before merging would protect feed ordering.

- Line 392: Update the timestamp parsing around the naive destructuring to
capture fractional seconds and add the fraction to the converted instant,
preserving milliseconds in estimated publication dates. Add a test for the
`2026-04-04T10:00:00.500` input.
- Line 404: Validate the parsed wall-clock calendar and time components before
converting them with Date.UTC; reject out-of-range values such as month 13 so
they return null and allow the path fallback, rather than accepting Date.UTC’s
normalized date.

Addresses CodeRabbit review: reject out-of-range wall-clock components
(so a malformed estimate falls back to the conference folder) and keep
millisecond fractions.
