Tired of your city’s passenger helicopters going scuba diving mid-flight?
In Cities: Skylines, helicopters love hugging the contours of the ground. That’s great for flying over hills and skyscrapers—until they head out over open water! The moment they hit the coastline, the game samples the ocean floor instead of the water's surface, sending your choppers diving toward the seabed or skiing across the waves on their skids.
HoverLock fixes this once and for all!
-
Cruise Altitude Floor: The helicopters will not dip below the altitude they began cruise flight at. The instant a helicopter enters cruise flight, HoverLock locks this as the minimum flight altitude.
-
Smooth Ocean Transit: Choppers sail smoothly across bays, rivers, and oceans at the exact height they were flying over land.
-
Seamless Hand-off: Default terrain-following control kicks right back in if the helicopter is approaching an obstacle.
-
Service Helicopter Support: Your regular fire, police, medical, and disaster copters will not be affected and work as usual. (Patches only Passenger and Cargo Helicopter AI.)
-
Zero Overhead: Built with ultra-lightweight, high-performance C# logic so your simulation speed stays buttery smooth.
-
Zero Setup Needed: No options menus or tweaks required—just subscribe, enable, and enjoy flat water flights.
-
Save-Safe: Does not modify your save-game data. Real-time ingame change only.
-
Harmony 2.2.2.0 Powered: Built for total stability and seamless mod co-existence.
Say goodbye to scuba choppers and keep your pilots in the sky where they belong!
This is my first published mod, and yes I used AI to help me code it. The idea is all mine though after watching countless helicopters become scubacopters, I figured it was time to try and do something about it!
I made this mod primarily to solve a problem in a large coastal city. Passenger / Cargo helicopters crossing large expanses of deep water between stops would lower in altitude close to, and sometimes into, the water. This mod fixes that.
I have also tested it in mountain terrain. Taking off from valley stops, crossing water and climbing to a mountain stop, all good. Taking off from a mountain stop and going to a valley stop across water, the altitude on the return trip remains high until landing. Taking off from a valley stop, climbing over mountainous terrain, and landing in valley stop normal game mechanics apply.
