…cker without embeddings The embedded graph needed no Docker, but the vector store still defaulted to Qdrant, and a docker-compose.yaml that a Memgraph-era `cgr start` left in CGR_HOME made `cgr start` bring up the stack's Qdrant: with the daemon down it exited, even under --no-embeddings, which was never consulted. A run that writes no embeddings (--no-embeddings or CGR_SKIP_EMBEDDINGS) now starts no Qdrant; on Memgraph it starts only Memgraph. CGR_VECTOR_STORE_BACKEND defaults to sqlite, a file beside the graph, and the semantic extra installs sqlite-vec where it ships wheels. Qdrant stays one setting away, and an install that sets QDRANT_* without choosing a backend is told once. Each project now records the backend its points were settled in, so the next sync after the backend changes refills the new store even on an unchanged checkout. A Python whose sqlite3 cannot load extensions turns semantic search off with one warning instead of owing a pass on every sync. BREAKING CHANGE: CGR_VECTOR_STORE_BACKEND now defaults to sqlite instead of qdrant. An install that never set it re-embeds each project into ~/.cgr/vectors.sqlite on its next sync and no longer searches or starts Qdrant; set CGR_VECTOR_STORE_BACKEND=qdrant to keep it. Exclude musl Linux from the sqlite-vec dependency marker
On Alpine/musl with an x86_64 or aarch64 machine, this marker evaluates true even though the locked sqlite-vec release has only manylinux wheels and no source distribution (as shown by its wheel-only entry in uv.lock). Consequently, installing the documented semantic extra fails during dependency resolution rather than skipping sqlite-vec and allowing users to select Qdrant as intended; use a marker or packaging strategy that excludes musl environments.

Not changing the marker. I traced the failure path, and it already exists on main. semantic also requires torch. The locked torch 2.14.0 has no sdist and ships wheels only for macosx_14_0_arm64, manylinux_2_28_{x86_64,aarch64} and win_amd64, so pip install 'code-graph-rag[semantic]' already fails to resolve on Alpine/musl before sqlite-vec is considered. sqlite-vec's wheels cover every platform torch ships for, so wherever the extra installs at all, sqlite-vec installs too. PEP 508 also has no marker that tells musl from glibc, so excluding musl isn't possible in the marker itself.
The next push corrects the pyproject.toml comment to say this, and I'm correcting the PR description, which wrongly said the extra skips sqlite-vec on musl.

…extensions The store stays closed on such a Python, so the test had no file to read. The semantic extra's comment now says why its sqlite-vec marker cannot exclude musl and need not: torch, also in the extra, has no musl wheels.
