Sign git commits when the store asks, as pass does (pass.signcommits) - #2070
Part of #2058. pass's git_commit() adds -S when git config --bool pass.signcommits is true for the store. QtPass's own commits never did, so a store whose history is meant to be signed got unsigned commits from QtPass next to the signed ones from pass.
ImitatePass::commitArgs(): returns commit, plus -S when the setting is true. It asks before each commit, as pass does, so a changed setting applies at once. Every commit uses it, queued and blocking: entries, .gpg-id, re-encryption, and the backup commit.
RealPass: its one direct pass git commit (removing a linked folder) asks the same; pass's own commits already sign.
ProfileInit: the first commits of a new store honour the setting from the user's Git config (the new repository has none of its own yet).
Signing setup: Git's own applies (user.signingkey, gpg.format, so SSH signing works too). A commit that can't be signed fails and is reported like any failed commit; it is never made unsigned.
Tests
New tst_util::commitsAreSignedWhenTheStoreAsks, which uses a stand-in gpg.program with the user's global and system Git config shut out (GIT_CONFIG_GLOBAL, GIT_CONFIG_NOSYSTEM). A global gpg.format=ssh would otherwise sign with the developer's real key and never call gpg.program; that is exactly what happened on my first run.
No setting: not signed.
pass.signcommits true: gpgsig in the commit.
A failing signer: the backup commit fails and HEAD is unchanged.
It fails with -S never added.
tst_imitatepass's call log leaves out the pass.signcommits query, since those tests are about what git is asked to change. tst_realpass expects the query before the commit.
make check 1515/1515; Doxygen is clean.
Restoring the previous clipboard (the other half of #2058) is still to do.
Git commits created by QtPass—including password and configuration changes, re-encryption, backups, and linked-folder removal—can be signed when pass.signcommits is enabled in the relevant Git configuration.
When signing is enabled but fails, QtPass does not create an unsigned commit. Linked-folder removal reports an error if its Git commit is incomplete.
Documentation
Documented the signed-commit setting and its behavior, including that failed signing prevents the commit.
pass's git_commit() adds -S when `git config --bool pass.signcommits` is
true for the store. QtPass's own commits never did, so a store whose
history is meant to be signed got unsigned commits from QtPass next to
the signed ones from pass.
- ImitatePass::commitArgs(): "commit", plus "-S" when the setting is
true, asked before each commit as pass does; used by every commit
(queued and blocking: entries, .gpg-id, re-encryption, the backup).
- RealPass: its one direct `pass git commit` (removing a linked folder)
asks the same; pass's own commits already sign.
- ProfileInit: the first commits of a new store honour it from the
user's Git config.
- Git's own signing setup applies (user.signingkey, gpg.format). A
commit that cannot be signed fails and is reported, not made unsigned.
Test: a stand-in gpg.program, with the user's global and system Git
config shut out (a global gpg.format=ssh would otherwise sign with the
user's real key): unsigned without the setting, signed with it, and a
failing signer makes the commit fail with HEAD unchanged.

QtPass checks pass.signcommits and adds -S to affected commits when the setting is true. Linked-folder removal queues the commit and checks its result and staged path.

ImitatePass checks pass.signcommits and applies the resulting arguments to store, .gpg-id, re-encryption, and backup commits. Tests cover unsigned and signed backup commits, plus signer failure. The changelog describes this behavior.
RealPass queues the linked-folder removal commit and checks its result and staged path. Tests cover invocation order and incomplete deletion reporting.

Signed commits during profile initialization can fail when the signing key lives only in the configured GPG home. Apply the GNUPGHOME selection there before merging. The linked-folder removal commit no longer blocks the UI and is checked against the store that queued it.

CodeRabbit: `pass git commit` runs git in the branch of cmd_git() whose
status pass drops (the script ends in exit 0), so a commit that failed,
now also one whose signer would not sign, read as done and the link's
removal stayed staged and unsynchronised. The commit runs blocking and
is judged by what is left staged (`git diff --cached --name-only`): a
failure is reported as "Delete incomplete", with git's message.
Also: the signing test restores a GIT_CONFIG_NOSYSTEM it found set.

CodeRabbit: running the commit blocking (previous commit) froze the
window while a signer or hook waited (a pinentry, an agent). It is
queued again, as GIT_COMMIT (which RealPass uses for nothing else), and
RealPass::finished() judges it with the quick staged check, emitting
finishedRemove on success and "Delete incomplete" otherwise. The quick
lookups before it (ls-files, rm --cached, the signing setting) block as
before.
The failing-commit test's stand-in now says pass.signcommits is true
and fails only a commit that carries -S, so it also fails when the -S
goes missing (checked).

CodeRabbit: the queued commit can outlive a profile switch, and its
staged check then asked the new profile's pass and store, so a failed
commit could read as done. The pass executable and environment are
captured with the folder when the commit is queued, and the check uses
them. The failing-commit test switches to another profile, whose pass
says nothing is staged, right after the removal is queued; it fails
when the current profile is asked instead.

Use the configured GPG home for initialization commits.
gitEnvironment() does not apply AppSettings::gpgHome. If pass.signcommits is enabled and the signing key exists only in that configured GPG home, the git commit -S used by profile initialization can fail. Apply the same effective GNUPGHOME selection that Pass::init() uses.

commitArgs() asks exactly that (config --bool --get, exactly true), before each commit, so a changed setting takes effect immediately. Unset gives exit 1 and no -S.
It applies to every commit: queued (gitCommit), gitAddGpgId, commitReencrypted and createBackupCommit.
The query goes through execBlocking with the store environment (#2057), so with gitUseParentRepository it reads the config of the same repository that will make the commit.
-S on the command line wins over commit.gpgsign=false (which setUpBackupRepo sets), so the test proves -S and not a global config.
RealPass: pass git commit is a plain git commit, and pass's own commits already sign. The extra query there is right, and so is the expectation in tst_realpass.
ProfileInit: the query runs after init through the same QProcess, so with gitEnvironment() (ceiling, literal pathspecs) and the user's global config.
A failed signature fails the commit and HEAD stays unchanged (tested). It is never committed unsigned.
The test isolates GIT_CONFIG_GLOBAL and GIT_CONFIG_NOSYSTEM. Good that you found the global gpg.format=ssh yourself.
Pedantic, non-blocking
Doc block on the wrong test, again (same pattern as in #2061): in tst_util.cpp the new /** … commitsAreSignedWhenTheStoreAsks */ and its function sit between the existing doc comment of createBackupCommitLeavesUntrackedFilesAlone ("Regression for #1682: git add -A staged everything…") and that function. Doxygen now gives the new test two blocks and the #1682 test none. Move the new test above that comment.
Only the blocking backup path is tested. The queued gitCommit() (every insert/remove/move), gitAddGpgId() and ProfileInit's commitArgs() each build their arguments their own way. One extra assertion on an insert with pass.signcommits true (HEAD has gpgsig) would cover the path users hit most.
commitArgs() runs a blocking git config on the GUI thread before every queued commit. That's quick, but with a slow gitExecutable (WSL, a network share) it is a pause per save. Fine for now; if it ever bothers anyone, the answer can be cached until the settings or the store change.
If the signature fails on the queued path, the entry is already encrypted and written, but the commit fails. Is that clear to the user, beyond the git error in the output panel? A message like "saved, but not committed: signing failed (pass.signcommits)" would help. With pass it is the same (the entry stays, the commit fails), so this is not a regression.
RealPass, b6b0306: queued again and judged in finished() by "is the removal still staged". That is right, and it takes away the window freeze of 9c5cfa9. The test stand-in now fails only a commit with-S, so it also catches a missing -S. One hole remains: m_linkCommits is only dequeued in finished(). If the process doesn't start, Executor emits error(id, -1, …) and not finished (executor.cpp:206/235, also from cancelNext(), line 435). The path then stays in the queue: no finishedRemove, and the next link-removal commit is judged against the old path (whose staged check is empty, so "success"), while its own path stays in the queue. Dequeue on error for GIT_COMMIT as well (report it as "Delete incomplete"), or carry rel with the process rather than in a separate queue.
63ff816 / 03a8fd3: judging in the store the commit was queued for (pass and environment in LinkCommit) is right, and the test switches profiles in between. The environ member is now environment (03a8fd3), so no clash with the POSIX global or the Windows CRT macro.
The intercept skips Pass::finished() entirely for these commits, including its general handling (finishedAnyWithPid/output to the panel). For a quiet commit -q there's hardly any output, so that's fine, but when the commit succeeds, git's stderr warnings (a hook that complains) now go nowhere except finishedRemove(out, err).
(The GIT_CONFIG_NOSYSTEM restore is already fixed in 9c5cfa9.)
…#2074)
Henk's non-blocking points on #2070:
- A git step failing after the entry was written (a commit that could
not be signed, say) showed nothing for a new entry (the dialog closed,
onOperationError only tidies up) and "Not saved" for an existing one,
which was wrong. Pass now reports it ("Saved, not committed", with
git's message) and the dialog closes whenever the entry was written.
- The signing test also covers the queued commit every insert, remove
and move ends in, not only the blocking backup commit.
- Its doc block was again between another test's comment and that test;
the #1682 comment is back on createBackupCommitLeavesUntrackedFilesAlone.
- RealPass's link-removal commit, judged in finished(), passes git's
output to the output panel (finishedAnyWithPid) as Pass::finished()
would.
